Creating a universe: the props factory
The props department is in charge of making the scenery and objects that are used in each opera look real. They do anything from small props to assemblies like these:
Andrea Chénier
Based on the life of the French poet André Chénier, taking place during the French Revolution, the opera by Umberto Giordano was presented in 2010 at the Real.
Aida
‘Aida’, by Giuseppe Verdi, is one of the most monumental and emblematic productions of the Real. This opera inaugurated the 1998-1999 season.
Don Quixote
Scene of the representation of Don Quixote, an opera with music by Cristóbal Halffter and libretto by Andrés Amorós, performed in 2000.
Persephone
Assembly for season 16/17 of Persephone, an opera-oratorio-ballet by Igor Stravinsky on the libretto by André Gide.

The prohibition to love by Richard Wagner was released in the Theatre of Magdeburgo in 1836 with the name “The beginner of Palermo” to get around the censorship. This is the adaptation from 2016 that was seen in the Teatro Real.
Rheingold
Adaptation of the piece by Wagner 'The Rhinegold' which was scheduled at the Theatre in the 2002 season.
Image of the opera “Saint François d'Asisse”, a production of the Teatro Real, composed by Olivier Messiaen and considered one of the major works of the twentieth century. It had to be performed in Madrid Arena because its dimensions did not fit in the Theatre.
The props factories at the Real begin their work when a project, a sketch or photographs arrive… from there, and based on artistic parameters and functionality, the universe of the play is created.
